That's when I saw them, too - Misfits and then Low Budget, though Schoolboys was the first Kinks album I owned. They were a terrific arena band for a while there, but I wish I could have seen them on some of the more theatrical early 70's tours.

You guys were talking about great live albums on here last week, and I almost mentioned "One For The Road" but I know I only love that album because I was at one of the shows (Providence). There is some really good video from that show included with the bonus footage on the DVD of Ray's Return To Waterloo "movie."

I always thought the "One for the Road" , a little too pumped up . "20th Century Man" is one of my favorite Kinks songs , and the cut the emotional peak of the song ( the " I was born in a welfare state " part ) out , to make it more a rocker .
At least they were making some money then ( wasn't always the case ).
A friend played me a download ( torrent ) of a live show from 69, It was great, they actually jam out some of the songs !
If Bobcat is going to a Kinks musical he should do 'Percy"...( look it up ).

I have confess I like "Shakes The Clown" .

Yeah, like I said "I Know I only love that album because I was at one of the shows ..." and I'm familiar with Percy, thanks
